English movie - easily 1960/70s movie. Not sure if British.
This is a story about a teenage girl struggling for an identity and recognition as a 'young woman/lady' from everyone - including her father and her 'dream/love'. Her widowed father always treats her (along with probably 5 to 6 other kids of his - she is the eldest of them all) as a little kid. So she desperately tries her hand and the disasters that follow- are hillarious. She has quite a few siblings. The man she has crush on is probably 27 - the age difference is highlighted. He is preparing for a dance competition with another lady. Our heroine watches them, and learns the steps out of interest. Her father tries to cope with the fact that his daughter is growing up and to show his affection, buys her a lingerie - to wear with 'cocktail dress of olden days. Only he does not realize the one he got was for people with a back/spinal problem. So it would be so stiff, that the girl wont be able to move a muscle - and hence some comedy spins around.
Finally, she ends up dancing with him - and everybody realize that she has indeed become a 'young lady'.
I know the story described as above may feel so dry and lifeless. But the circumstances and the disasters of the girls efforts make it truly hillarious.
It would really mean a lot to me if anyone can provide any kind of suggestions. I know its not much to go on. I remember seeing this kid with my sister when i was a real small kid. I dont remember the name of the movie. But my sister and I had a very happy evening together, rolling with laughter for this movie. I am meeting her after easily 10 years. I would love to surprise her by getting her to watch it with me again - and relive some childhood fun. So if anyone can shed some light/ideas.... any suggestion at all is truly appreciated :)

I'm a female, who's turning 25 next month. I don't normally (or ever) make a big deal about my b-day, but I figure it's time. I mean, I let 13, 16, 18 AND 21 pass without doing anything big, so why not now? The problem I'm having is coming up with ideas for what to do.
My main idea, so far, is to rent a house for the weekend and just hang out with friends--but I also wanna do the big party/club thing, too. So, I was thinking of renting a condo in the city where I used to live (I moved away), and invite my friends over for the weekend. My birthday falls on a Sunday, so we could do the big party thing on Saturday night, then "ring in" my birthday late that evening.
So, I need ideas for the party--I want it to be special and memorable. I was thinking of doing something silly, like an "old fogey" theme, since I'm turning 25 (which I used to consider old, when I was like 8 yrs old)--I could make a BINGO drinking game; have costumey stuff for people to wear when they take drivers' license pics (since old people are supposedly terrible drivers...). But, I don't know.
The costumey thing seems weird since: 1) we're in our mid-twenties; and, 2) my b-day is like 10 days before Halloween, so I feel like people will be kinda confused.
Ugh, I guess I'm just looking for ideas for themes OR activities we can do. I was thinking we could just go to a cocktail lounge, then a comedy club instead of doing the party thing...but, any ideas are helpful.
Thanks!
Ooooh, great answers so far! I didn't want to do the "Old Fogey's" thing, because it's SO not cute. So I'm looking for ideas that people will actually be excited to dress up/get a costume for--very good ideas, so far. :)
I need help with my homecoming dress. I looked at macys & dillards & debs and all that , and none were 'me.' i really love these dresses but the shipping is $40 or more . these are the links & if you know any websites with dresses like these please let me know ASAP !!!!! http://www.trendress.com/racy-pink-cocktail-dress-features-strapless-neck-and-ruche-detail-P1260/ i love poofy & spraplass & one shoulder , blue and purple are what im looking for .
i'm going to a wedding and the ceremony starts at 2 but the cocktails and everything starts at 5. i'm just wondering if it is considered a daytime or evening wedding to figure out what to wear
They are complaining that my cousin hunts his own food. My cousin said that they are throwing rocks into the window and taking his stuff from his porch. He says he's about to throw molotov cocktails at them. Will he get in trouble?

Okay, so my boyfriend and I are sharing our 3 year anniversary together & I want a simple, yet elegant dress. He loves the color red, so I am going to wear a red dress & I'm stuck with these 2 choices. I'm kinda thinking the 2nd one looks like it's a clubbing dress, but had other people saying it looks great. Help?

I am hosting a mexican style buffet dinner reception. We have a beautiful venue and wanted to place my dinnerware/glassware/silverware at each table as a decorative place setting. Also so only thing guests will have to do is take the plate up to the buffet. I know traditionally people get there dinnerware/silverware at the beginning of the line, but didn't want them to have to carry the extra to their table. Also I'll be hosting a cocktail hour there before dinner starts, so then guests will already have been at their tables. I just wanted to make sure this wouldn't be akward to take their plate up for the buffet?
So then If I keep the plates at the beginning of the buffet is it best to stick with the fancy white square ones I reserved? I just read a few places that it was appropriate to have them take them up and I loved the look on the table, but now thinking twice? Oh and this isn't a taco bar. Its a upscale mexican stations.
I'm planning a bachelorette party for my friend and I'm playing Name that Drink game.. But I want the names of crazy funny drinks? Can you help me with thinking of some cocktail drinks?
Going to have a cookout with all the normal cookout stuff but what drinks should I fix, something different. Cocktails and non alcohol choices.
I am living in Germany and cannot find the glucose (liquid or otherwise) that I need to make fondant for cake decorating. I did manage to find glycerin, which I originally thought could be used as a substitute, but I've run several extensive internet searches and cannot seem to find any recipes that require glycerin but not glucose (everything that requires glycerin also requires glucose). The fondant recipe I use at home is made with egg whites, powdered sugar and liquid glucose and it works quite well, but as I am in another country, I am willing to try a new recipe if necessary. Does anyone know where I can purchase liquid glucose? I've tried several supermarkets, pharmacies and specialty stores and can't find anything. I suppose ordering online is a possibility, but as I'd really like to make the cake in the next day or so, I'd strongly prefer to find something that I can use immediately. If buying liquid glucose is not an option, does anyone know a simple (in other words, something that does not require a chemistry experiment) recipe to make it in my own kitchen? I've seen one or two, but both require cream of tartar, which again, I cannot seem to find anywhere. And in the event that's not an option, what could be used as a substitute? Would simple syrup (the kind used for making cocktails) work? Thank you in advance.
I'm planning my cousins birthday and IRS her 16th. She wants a theme along the lines of playboy or something similar. There will be alcohol so I'll need ideas for cocktails and punchs to serve and ways to monitor how much people have.
Also what sort of food can we serve that's easy to do and it's messy?
Also, there's a pool in the garden so ideas of how to decorate it and stop people from jumping in
thanks so much

Years ago, I had an Amish Cookbook which contained a delicious beverage recipe called "Hot Scotch." It is the equivalent of Hot Chocolate, only butterscotch flavored instead. It's different, but satisfying like Hot Chocolate, especially in cold weathr. My kids LOVED it when they were little. As Autumn is approaching, I've been thinking about this delicious hot beverage and I have, unfortunately, lost the recipe. Again, it is NOT a cocktail recipe...it contains no alcohol and has a base of milk, butterscotch morsels and marshmallows heated in the microwave. Anyone have a recipe that sounds like this one? I'm looking for the orginal Amish recipe, not one that anyone has made up, but I will be happy to hear from you if you have one that you think this sounds like, even if it may go by a different name! Thanks!
Do you agree with Mexican NGO lays blame for migrants’ woes on inaction and deaf ears of the Central and South American consulates ?
Mexican NGO lays blame for migrants’ woes
The Center of Border Studies and Promotion of Human Rights (CEPRODHAC) enumerated the main causes for the deaths and human rights violations of the migrants who seek the “American dream.” Rebeca Rodriguez, CEPRODHAC president, stated that the root causes are poverty, the lack of governmental programs to eradicate poverty in the countries that produce emigration, and also inaction and deaf ears of the Central and South American consulates, as well as the corruption that prevails in Mexico’s National Immigration Agency.

Mexican congresswoman: people ought to move the same as free trade does
Rosa Marquez, Secretary for the Rural Development and Equity of the Distrito Federal stated that at least ¾ million D.F. area residents (“D.F.”: the area surrounding Mexico City) have migrated to the U.S. & Canada. The same area has received 1.5 billion dollars in individual monetary remittances from abroad up to 2009. Marquez emphasized the need to eradicate discrimination against migrants and” to reinforce public migratory policies.” A local congresswoman, Aleida Alvarez, said that if the world has commercial free trade treaties, “it is almost absurd that persons may not be able to move in the same manner.”

Regarding the Cancun bar killings
The owner of the Cancun bar that was attacked with Molotov cocktails said that a week before they had received a threat from organized crime. Armed subjects arrived and said, “If you don’t give for your security we’re going to bring about a killing.” The thugs were asking for 40,000 pesos a month (approx. 3,000 dollars) for “security.” Six women and two men, all of them bar employees, died due to burns and asphyxia. Press data shows that the majority of the bars are threatened by the “Zetas.” A month ago, the owner of another bar, the “Costa Azul,” also refused to pay for security, and opted to close down his business. They were kidnapped when he and an employee arrived to put the place up for rent; neither has been heard from since then.

Mexican federal police ranks being purged
Mexico’s federal police announced that 3,200 of its members, or 9.2% of the force, have been let go. The agency’s commissioner, Facundo Rosas, said that this was because those persons did not meet the requirements for retention, and not because they were linked to organized crime. An additional 1,020 federales” are about to be dismissed because of failure to meet “trustworthiness control exams” which include polygraph and anti-doping screening, among others.

Current data re monetary remittances
Individual monetary remittances sent to Mexico from abroad rose 1.84% in July and reached 1.867 billion dollars. The U.S. is the largest source of these remittances and, despite the economic recession, Mexico has received 12.495 billion dollars from January to July. That, along with petroleum, constitutes one of Mexico’s largest sources of income.

Guys, for #4, the dress isn't feathers...They're fringed, which is basically fabric cut into a bunch of lines so that they look like thread pieces attached to a dress lol. I think fringe looks nice :)
Question from friend at cocktail party that we hadn't see in months - "so why aren't you two married yet?
ANSWER-"She's been married and I don't want to get married"
We are not in a relationship, or dating but close friends. People have always talked about us and there is definate attraction on my end-possibly his. Why didn't he say - we aren't together? Why give such a vague answer?
I've posted individual dresses & gotten mostly negative feedback, so please just go easy on me. I'm desperately trying to find something that will work.
Details:
Wedding is New Years Eve. I am NOT a bridesmaid - I AM an ordinary guest. My husband (bride's brother) is walking the bride down the aisle & will be wearing a tux I am not skinny, I'm a size 16 in street clothes (I normally opt to cover up & rarely flaunt my curves). I am busty (38G) & that can sometimes make a nice dress look slutty on me (not the look I want to go for as a guest at a wedding) - which is another reason I go for more modest styles. I really want to cover my upper right arm as I have a large tattoo (flowers/butterflies) as I am concerned that bridezilla will come after me if it is seen - and I found this website that will make a jacket to go with the dress (dress with sleeves was my preference but that isn't looking like a good option for me). Bride has said wedding is "extremely formal" but when I asked about floor-length vs cocktail length she said I should wear whatever I feel looks good on me.
I am in my mid-30's so I'm not anybody's mom or grandma but I'm not 21 and going clubbing either.
Which of these dresses (if any) do you think would be appropriate to wear to the wedding:
Dress #1 - I'm concerned might be too flashy, BUT it is NYE & with the customizations I'd ask them to not put a train on the dress - http://www.nexteve.com/shop/evening-dresses/F6422.html
Dress #2 - I might actually go with the lilac or violet, I like purple - http://www.nexteve.com/shop/evening-dresses/strapless-blue-chiffon-F6229.html
Dress #3 - I like that this has straps so I could probably wear a normal/comfortable bra with it. Also like the color change around the waist, it might hide my figure a little -http://www.nexteve.com/shop/evening-dresses/F6269.html
Dress #4 - the general shape of this dress is very similar to my wedding dress & I know this shape looks pretty good on me. http://www.nexteve.com/shop/evening-dresses/sabrina-lilace-winered-satin-lace-F02_0529.html
Dress #5 - might be a little too curve-hugging for my liking & if you like this one would you go with black or sky blue??? - http://www.nexteve.com/shop/evening-dresses/black-strapless-dress-F02_0403.html
Dress #6 - simple, I like the straps I think I would go with lilac or violet- http://www.nexteve.com/shop/evening-dresses/F6260.html
cocktail attire
Im looking for a 50's Cocktail dress for Home Coming, and Ive looked high and low for one. So bored of searching, Im here to ask,
Where can I find a poof skirted, preferably blue to any colour on the olive green side, and a size small dress? Or well, just any cocktail dress.
Got a good website? Pleaseee?
So any takers...
I already know Etsy, Ebay, Mod cloth.
I'm currently trying to work up a menu that will be well suited for my daughter's Sweet 16.
There will be approx 70-100 guests ranging in ages from 2 to 62--so we're trying to make sure we have something for everybody ;D
She doesn't want foods that would make it look like a "sit down" dinner, rather wants it to be more like fun party food presented in 'cocktail party' fashion of sorts.
So we'll be setting up the food in different locations to try to encourage more "mingling" ;D
Any feedback/suggestions on our planned menu is greatly appreciated!

Before anybody suggests a light 'alcoholic' beverage option for the adults, we really dont want it there since it's for a 16th bday...plus the location won't permit it for a "minor's" event anyway LOL
And some family has suggested a chocolate fountain, but she just really doesn't want one.
My mother and I are doing all the food/desserts ourselves...so the easier the better ya know? heehee
Thanks so much!
It is a Twilight fic. If anyone can send me a copy that would be great. nicole_w54701@yahoo.com
A friend of mine and I are having trouble trying to word her wedding reception invitations. She is having a post wedding reception and plans to have it in the form of a semi-formal cocktail party. The celebration will consist of two lives bands, Hor' dourves and an open bar. She does not want her guest's kids to attend although she will have her 7 year old son there. What is the most polite way to get across that she doesn't want kids there?
I understand that she has every right to have her child there and still be able to ask the guest not to bring theirs, but do you think they will be offended seeing her son there?

Okay after reading the responses here I have to say, "Her son has every right to be there celebrating a special moment of his familys life." The guest's kids are not her child and this is her party. I feel that if her fiance' and her are shelling out 10 grand at the least for this event then her son has every right to share this with her.
Why should she be responsible for other peoples kids when she is treating them already?
the red seems more vavavoom, but i have light brown hair and green eyes, light/medium skin, so maybe the purple would look better.

We are holding our wedding at an Asian Restaurant where there's no bar, and both of us are not familiar with alcoholic drinks i.e cocktails, shots, etc. We plan to save money on hiring a bartender. We will have hors d'oerves served during cocktail hours but how could we serve alcoholic drinks for alcoholic lovers? How about pre-mixed alcohol drinks? How do we do it? We were thinking about buying one or two bottles of wine, leaving them at each table for drinks during the dinner; which types of wine would you recommend? Please help us out. We are alcohol illiterates! Thanks so much.
Could we not hire a bartender and mix these drinks ahead of time?

Here's the deal, the bride for this wedding was my bridesmaid-zilla. I am not super-skinny (I'm around a size 16), I have a very large tattoo on my upper right arm and I would prefer to keep it covered for this wedding so the bride doesn't flip out on me (I do think she would). I'm not ancient, but I am in my 30's and am very busty so strapless, halter or low-backed dresses are not something I care to wear.
Wedding is New Years Eve and bride has said it is "extremely formal" but has said to wear what I look good in and that floor-length or cocktail length is fine. My husband (bride's brother) is wearing a tux & walking her down the aisle. I've been leaning towards a floor length dress, but this one caught my eye and I was wondering if I could get away with it.
what do you think?

If you give your horse monthly joint injections, do you also give them feed through joint suppliments?
It's getting really expensive with Luna's monthly joint injection AND her two feed through joint suppliments. She's doing really great on this "cocktail", but I don't know how much longer I'll be able to afford all of it. I'm talking to her vet this week about maybe cutting back on her feed throughs, but I just wanted to know your opinion.
I thought with the monthly joint injections you didn't have to give feed throughs, but just wanna see what everyone else does.
I take her to a lameness specialist once a year for hock injections. She gets Adequan injections monthly. MSM/Glucosamine and Corta-Flx pellets every day.
So - I just went and bought bourbon...only to realize I was out of bitters...and NO ONE has them around here...is there anything I can do to make up for them in this recipe?
I really love the dresses, but the price seems unbelieveable. So cheap.

I need a site to order a homecoming dress thats not too expenseive. i really like Hannah S styles. Or just any short cocktail dresses
Preferably 'light' and 'summery'
Im going to my cousins engagement party its a cocktail party just adults and cocktail attire but i have no idea what to wear. My cousin in 23 years old his soon to be wife is 22 and its basically going to be people our age there.
Im 5'3 (i have really long legs and a short torso)
140 pounds
size 7/8 in jeans
22 years old
im like a large B or small C cup size
i feel like i carry a tad bit of extra weight on my shoulders arms which stinks
But most of my weight is on my tummy and love handles.
I'd like a short dress but no idea if i should go with a tube top, halter or what.
What kind of dress would flatter me most? and hide my extra tummy and love handles?
And I'm also 5 months pregnant with a very obvious baby bump, can you imagine this dress on a pregnant woman?

I've actually never been to a function like this and I want to look very nice for my husband, it's their Semi-Formal Send-Off Cocktail Party, they're gonna be deploying and they're having this nice get together for everyone. Just because I'm a stay at home mom to a 19 month old and I'm 5 months pregnant doesn't mean I can't look smoking hot for my husband right ladies??
Yes my husband still gets to be home for the birth, he'll be on rear detachment and then he'll deploy 10 days after I have my baby.
I ended up not liking to dress so I'm so glad I went to try it on and I didn't just buy it online. It was actually totally see through and covered in gold glitter that was totally flaking off, I ended up buy a totally different one :)
What cocktail featured on Mad Men do you like the best? Only pick one. Which one is your least favorite or do you despise? My favorite the vodka gimlet. My least favorite the bloody mary. On the menu tonight is a bourbon sidecar. No cognac. What about you?

A suspicious fire that damaged construction equipment at the site of a future mosque in Tennessee has some local Muslims worried that their project has been dragged into the national debate surrounding Manhattan's ground zero.
Authorities told leaders of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro that four pieces of heavy construction equipment on the site were doused with an accelerant and one set ablaze early Saturday morning. The site is now being patrolled at all hours by the sheriff's department.
Federal investigators have not ruled it arson, saying only that the fire was being probed and asked the public to call in tips. Eric Kehn, spokesman for the Nashville office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said arson is suspected.
The site has already seen vandalism, said Joel Siskovic, a spokesman for the FBI in the Memphis office. A sign at the site was spray-painted with the words "Not Welcome" and then torn in half. The FBI is investigating the fire in case it is a civil rights violation.
"We want to make sure there are not people acting with the intent to prevent people from exercising their First Amendment rights," Siskovic said.
Essam Fathy, chairman of the planning committee for the mosque, said he has lived in the city about 25 miles southeast of Nashville for almost 30 years and has never run into problems with his faith until now. He's concerned that outsiders could be involved.
"I don't think this is coming out of Murfreesboro," he said. "There were no issues at any time, even after 9/11, there were no issues. It just seems like there's a movement in the United States against Islam."
The debate in New York over a proposed Islamic community center and mosque two blocks away from ground zero has pitted advocates for religious freedom, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and President Barack Obama, against opponents who think it is insensitive to the victims of the terror attacks.
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, weighed in on the project for the first time on Monday.
"I guess I would ask everybody to remember that this is a country whose deepest origins are in religious freedom — it was founded by people who escaped to it to practice their religions — and to ask people to please have great respect for anyone's religious preferences and their rights to practice those in the United States. I think it goes right to the heart of what this country is about."
Supporters of the Tennessee mosque and some leaders in other faiths hope the fire could be a wake-up call to support religious freedom.
Two years ago, several men broke into the Islamic Center of Columbia, about 30 miles southwest of Murfreesboro, and torched it with molotov cocktails, stealing a stereo system and painting swastikas and "White Power" on the front of the building.
Some opponents of the mosque said they were concerned about how the project went through the city planning process and increased traffic. But many of the opponents at a recent rally expressed a fear that Muslims want to overthrow the government and bring Islamic law to the U.S.

Hi,
I will be organising a 30th Party in a few months for about 60 adults.
Average age will be around 24, I'm thinking most will drink!
I will have a Cocktail Machine for the ladies plus, khalua, midori,
vodka, malibu bottles.
For the guys I will have Johnni Walker, Jack Daniels, Sambucca bottles,
beer.
I am confused as to how many Beer's I should buy. I want to limit it to 3 types,
as I dont want to run out of a Beer, so is 3 choices ok? And how many boxes
should I buy?
Thanks.
Lol I should add I'm in Australia.
Everyone drinks Beer, you cannot have a party without Beer haha (the men).
Isn't liquor one of the 12 bottles I have added (malibu, khalua, black label, vodka and so on?).
Oh I forgot I ma having Jelly Shots and also a gin. I just need to get an idea of how many beer boxes I should buy.
